Salespeople Using Social Media is Increasingly Popular

As technology and social media become a larger part of everyone’s lives, it is vital for professionals to account for this factor in their business and this is especially true for salespeople.

Gerhard Gschwandtner, the publisher of Selling Power magazine, said that this evolving way to conduct sales and sales training has created a new type of salesperson.

“There’s a new breed of salesperson that I call ‘Salesperson 2.0,'” Gschwandtner said. “Salespeople need to be very skilled in using the web and social media. Seventy percent of [the customer’s] purchasing decisions are made online before [he or she] even sees a salesperson. If salespeople are not where the customers are – on the web – they are going to lose.”

Gschwandtner made these statements during the keynote address at the Sales 2.0 conference in San Francisco.

Other aspects of the conference also focused on the importance of social media which can connect salespeople to clients. Because of this importance, it may be wise for sales managers to give their staff some online sales training regarding these powerful tools.
