Sales Training is Essential for Large Companies

Even the Largest Companies Need

Ensuring that salespeople are interacting well with customers is essential for any sales manager and that is why Macy’s is overhauling its sales training program.

According to the Wall Street Journal, at a meeting of Macy’s sales associates in Delaware, the company’s vice president of learning and development, Mary Martin, informed attendees that 48 percent of the department store’s customer’s complaints had to do with interactions with salespeople.

The news source reports that Macy’s has partially blamed the dip in customer relations at some of its locations on its acquisition, and subsequent integration, of a number of regional department store chains. Recognizing its problems, the company began a new sales training program that is more extensive and more reliant on face-to-face instruction rather than videos.

“We are talking about a cultural shift … becoming more of a growth company,” Terry Lundgren, chairman and chief executive officer of Macy’s, told the news source.

Sales training is one of the smartest ways to rejuvenate a business as it can help employees to more effectively sell the company’s products and, thus, increase revenue.
